'How Not to Lose Your Identity As You Grow Older'
How often is the adjective 'old' coupled with a derogatory term such as 'old sod' 'old geezer' dozy old..' ? Older people in our Western culture often lose their identity, becoming part of some amorphous irrelevant group; their opinions are not sought or valued; they may be sometimes physically slower, but, without taking the trouble to get to know them, they are deemed to be mentally slow too. An American study into Alzheimers claims that we can slow the onset of Alzheimers with brain training such as crosswords and sudoku. This painting combines the cure and the symptoms. The frame is wide and shiny to contrast to the everyday image of a crossword puzzle.
